Consuming Fire
Back of the Book:
Scottish Highlands, 1694
With one brief meeting, a stranger destroys Maggie Robertson’s hopes for her future and threatens everything she has worked so hard to build. Instead of committing herself to a life of prayer and worship, she finds herself enmeshed once again in her father’s self-serving schemes.
Adam Campbell sees a web of deceit, dishonor, and betrayal spin out before him. Yet, by whatever means necessary, he must bring Maggie Robertson home to fulfill her father’s plans. Even if he must place his own integrity on the line.
Their lives are bound together by circumstances beyond their control. Their hearts are knit together by love. But only God can save them from the forces threatening to pull them apart.
My Review:
As with Kathleen’s other books, I found this one to be quite entertaining. I am never able to predict what will happen, and the stories are always so interesting. They have suspense, action, surprise, and morally-driven love.
I wish I would have read this one right after Embrace the Dawn. At the time I didn’t realize that this was a sequel, and I forgot a lot of the previous story. It’s fine as a stand-alone book, but it does continue the story from before. It took me a good 3rd of the book to feel like I remembered who the old characters were and what they had done.
I was also frustrated with the way Maggie always made quick, unchanging decisions and failed to listen to reason. Her stubbornness was irritating at times. It did fit well with the story and allowed for a good book, though. I just think I’m more easily able to forgive and more laid-back than she is. I bet others would be able to identify perfectly with her character.
