Back of the Book:

Scottish Highlands, 1691

Rumored to have murdered his wife, Ruarc MacDonald has a reputation as a dangerous man. Now his faith and honor are about to be put to the test.

After escaping a violent marriage, Killian Campbell swears no man will hurt or control her again. As she fights for her own life and her son’s, Killian is forced to seek safety in the arms of the one man who could destroy her future.

Only as Ruarc and Killian join together can they each make peace with the past, with God, and with the feuding clansmen who threaten to divide them forever.

My Review:

I thought this book was exciting and different. It wasn’t the same story with different people as you find in a lot of romance books. I had never read a story line like this before, and I thought Kathleen did a good job at telling the story. I like her writing style.

I was a little disappointed as some areas, though. Killian's grief over what she'd done didn't seem to affect her nearly as much as it would think it should have. I was very angry at Ruarc for his pig-headedness in the middle of the story, but maybe we were meant to feel that way about him. And then at the end, not all of the story lines are wrapped up. She leaves some of the things I wanted to know about open for us to make up. I'd rather know how everything turns out in the end than make it up, myself. (Which I later found out would be addressed in the sequel, Consuming Fire.)

But it was an entertaining read, and I will read more of her books in the future.

All reviews on this site are broken up into two parts. The first half is what the back of each book says. It is under copyright by the companies that published the books. I only reiterate it to give you a good understanding of what the book is about. The second half is my own personal review and should not be copied or otherwise taken without my express permission unless you give me credit for saying it and link back to the page it is posted on.
