Jewels for a Crown
Back of the Book:
Jenny Price’s future was all set. At least, it should have been. As one of Florence Nightingale’s top students, she should have had a guaranteed place in the prestigious Ontario Hospital. But Miss Nightingale—and God—had other plans. Instead of going to Ontario, Jenny finds herself on her way to the estate of a wealthy London family. Her assignment: care for Celeste Harrington, an incorrigible, tempestuous, spoiled twelve-year-old heiress suffering from epilepsy.
Though she doesn’t know it, Jenny is about to face the most difficult challenge of her life, a challenge that will test her skills and faith to the limits while drawing her ever deeper into the life and heart of the troubled Celeste; of Graham Harrington, Celeste’s remote, tormented father; and of a tutor who is desperately seeking the truth about God.
My Review:
This was a very charming book. It is set in one of my favorite time periods in England, with the large estates and servants. I love reading stories from this setting.
But I didn’t think this book was as gripping and adventurous as her last two were. The story didn’t lend itself to the kinds of wild and unusual events as the previous ones had. It held my interest in that I wanted to find out what happened next, but I was not drawn to read the book at every available moment like some books.
Nonetheless, it was a nice read. Lawana set up a charming story that shows that sometimes God’s answer is wait. He is weaving a tapestry for our lives that will bring us the most pleasure imaginable yet we are unaware of it until the tapestry takes on shape. This is something I have to repeatedly remind myself of. It is a good lesson for everyone to learn.
