The Fifth Man
Back of the Book:
Valkerie Jansen has made the discovery of a lifetime-evidence pf past life on Mars. But her personal life is coming unglued. Fellow astronaut Bob Kaganovski is so…infuriating. With NASA scheduling her every minute, she hasn’t got time for relationships. Especially while she’s under the media microscope.
Bob Kaganovski is looking over his shoulder. Is the mission commander cracking up-or is Bob? When Valkerie insists that she’s seen “something” out there, Bob is forced to ask why nobody else can see it. Who-or what-is Valkerie’s “fifth man”? And why is it trying to keep them from going home?
My Review:
Wow! This book had me glued to the edge of my seat! The beginning starts off a little slow, but once the action got going I couldn’t put it down. The mystery of the “fifth man” doesn’t get solved until the very end of the book, and it is played out very well. I was impressed with the way Olson and Ingermanson laid out the plot. I didn’t like having to switch back and forth from Earth time to Mars time right in the middle of a crisis on Mars, but it was worth it for the excellent book.
My only hang-up with the book is that it doesn’t talk about faith that much. Valkerie is a Christian, but it is only mentioned here and there. And when it is mentioned, it isn’t talked about much. I was a little disappointed in that regard, but it is an overall great book!
