Back of the Book:

Ever felt like the last item left on the clearance rack?

As a successful patent attorney, Ashley Stockingdale has all the makings of a perfect catch—the looks, the brains, even a convertible. But at 31, she’s beginning to wonder if she’s been passed over for good.

Deciding to adopt a new attitude, Ashley suddenly becomes the romantic interest of three men within a matter of days. While her heart enjoys turning the tables on the dating game, the rest of her previously predictable world is being turned upside down. Is it more than Ashley can handle? Or is it exactly what she wants?

Award-winning author Kristin Billerbeck combines comedy with spunk to create a memorable story in What A Girl Wants—an all-too-realistic picture of a single girl’s search for being content with who she is…with or without a man.

My Review:

This book was definitely different than anything I’ve ever read. The narration was entirely in first-person, which is not that common in this genre. It made the book seem less formal. I’m still not sure if I liked the style or not, but it fit in with the character of Ashley perfectly. I just wouldn’t want to read every book in this manner.

I was particularly drawn into this book from the very beginning because what is described in chapter 1 is, essentially, my life. She put words to things I had only thought of or had just recently discussed with friends. It was eerie, really—right down to the description of Seth, who actually exists in my life. Now, it’s not exactly the same, but it’s so close that I felt like I was reading about myself. So I’m sure I liked the book a lot more than others would.

I did find Ashley frustratingly flighty at times and questioned her actions in certain situations, but overall I enjoyed this little jaunt into her life. It was very funny in places, and I’m ready to read the second book to learn what happens in her life.

All reviews on this site are broken up into two parts. The first half is what the back of each book says. It is under copyright by the companies that published the books. I only reiterate it to give you a good understanding of what the book is about. The second half is my own personal review and should not be copied or otherwise taken without my express permission unless you give me credit for saying it and link back to the page it is posted on.
